This bass is unique, so unique in the fact, that it is actually a time capsule. Notice the metal cover on the tremolo and how there is no corrosion...most Ripper basses are actually missing this piece. The previous owner received this instrument from a friend who had passed, and for more then 17 years this bass sat in it's case and was never played. The electronics sound great and have no scratchiness when turning. After we gave a little TLC and a setup this bass plays AWESOME! This Ripper Bass SCREAMS that late 70's/early 80's hard rock vibe. You'll be blasted into the past immediately after picking this puppy up. Other than a few nicks in the headstock, and a few superficial hairline cracks in the finish, this guitar is in insane shape.
The Ripper was manufactured from 1973 until 1983, the peak year being 1976. Most had a maple body with laminated maple neck; however a significant number manufactured in 1975 had lighter alder bodies while retaining the maple neck. Also in 1975, an edgier and slimmer body, with more beveling and contours around the horns of the bass, was introduced. The new look was geared towards heavier music that was gaining popularity under the ending decade.
